If I ride the highway my battery seems to do fine but if I'm just cruising around town generally the same rpm's but just a lower gear my battery craps out eventually. i found this out the hard way by accidentally killing it and then having it not start on me...

i've been reading a bit about it and it seems that the stator is a very unlikely scenario. for right now i have just ordered a battery. an oem rectifier is 157 bones. i see aftermarket's for 100 bucks and ebay used for about 60. someone have an ohm meter and some free time?

or the other possibility.... bad wiring i guess? it looks like the guy made his own undertail deal... lol it look like sheet metal to me. and the wires under the passenger seat are all loosely laying around. this just came to my head. i will have to take a look at it tomorrow morning.

stator for me i believe. My battery ran for about 5 starts and would crap out in the most weird times.

and for having such a dead battery when i pulled it... it sure did charge fast on the 10 amp mode. this also leads me to believe that there's low levels in the battery, if i'm thinking correctly. i don't know shit about this electrical stuff. but at work a battery for our pallet jacks said charge complete but when we put it in the thing wouldn't go anywhere. we just had to take it over and fill the water up and then charge it again.

since the rectifier has cooling fins on it... could not enough air to it make it hot and not work properly? driving on highway maybe moves more air through it and cools it off better as opposed to city driving?
