so i installed my timing advancer and lubed my chain up been a couple months since done and changed oul in the bike.. took it out today and damn i dont know what happend.. i didnt think advancing the timing would actually help.. i cleared the quarter so much faster.. the front end just seems to stay down now and it runs smoother and revs faster now. i advanced it +4.. what is it about advancing the timing that makes it run so much better? just curious i was expecting you know maybe feel a little extra power once i got going but i didnt think it would be a new bike.. wel maybe lubing the chain and changing oil helped but idk jsut dont know how it would help so much..

the time it take for the combustion of the fuel/air mixture is always the same, the speed of the piston however does change. advancing the time starts the combustion process sooner so as to give you the most force on the piston at the correct time (in a nutshell). do you know what your total advance is? i would listen very closely for any detonation while riding and stick to the highest octane gas you can, especially with it getting hotter

i always run 91-92 octane in my bike i usually run 92 though.. i advanced it +4 from what it was stock so idk anything more then that.. but it just runs so much better

look for maybe an indicator mod on any R1 forums that would go off in case of detonation. Jace is right, you gotta watch out for that shit.
