So, might as well make a work log for this piece.

4th clutch took a dump today while racing 03yamiR1. taking it apart a little later tonight to see just how bad it is...

Also, rebuilding my calipers, changing plugs, and new pads.

talked to Pitcock today.

We came to the conclusion my oiling line is spraying a whole lot of hot oil down my clutches when I'm staging. This super heats the plates and makes them glaze over quickly.

Going to put a 90* fitting on the end and spray it off the cover instead of directly on the clutch.

WOW, this has to be the worst clutch i've ever pulled out of my bike. steels were a pita to get out and there is clutch plate residue everywhere in my basket.

new knowledge #2:

can't run full synthetic oil it a wet clutch, especially when racing.

Debo

what oil were/are you running?

i've been told to use castrol act-evo. haven't ran anything different, so idk how they compare haha.

Ran royal purple first couple clutches, then switched to repsol. Was reccomended to use castrol 20-50 or Valvoline Vr 1. Well that's what pitcock runs in his turbo Gsxr

sounds like a pita, hope you get it running, text when you go out riding sometime this year, maybe we can pop the cherry on riding.

daytonadad

castrol is one of the worse oils you can put in your bike, valvoline is better but still the best oil is mobil 1

so after a long search through forums last night, everyone says its a myth that you can't run "motorcycle" specific full syn with a wet clutch.

I'm still going to switch oils and re-adjust how my oil line sprays to try to help.

Last night I got the plugs changed and the clutch in, waiting on buying a 90* fitting since I got off work early at 5:30 to buy one... and the place closed at 5.

Also found out I went WAYYYYY to far into my bike, didn't have to take the tank/airbox out to change plugs, just had to remove the radiator.

So, went down to KCIR this past friday for their open bike test and tune day. Don't know the temps on the strip but it was 90's out all day. My goal was 9's, didn't get it. Made 2 runs before I melted my clutch fibers to the steels. Ran 10.1X's @ 142 mph both times. Terrible 60' times. I'm thinking my clutch basket is worn and causing all my clutch problems, but I'll find out later this week.

Jumped on my brothers R1 and made one pass with it. Ran a 10.4 then quit because it was way too hot.

Here is what a fiber should look like..

well now I'm really confused... drag guru on R1-Forum just told me this.

Its not oil lines fault. Its heat... So let it cool longer between passes.. At least 20 mins or more. And u might be dragging it too long. Never seen issue of it hurting clutches. Long as ur not usung synthetic it should help life. If u take cap off, put strap or zip tie with lever pulled. Also blower fan helps quicken down time. But u should make no more than 2, maybe 3 passes in hour. Or it will kill plates. But normally, its steels. Since ur having fiber problem...could be couple things. 1. Ur hanging on clutch too much for too long killing fibers. 2. Ur basket or pressure plate are warped and causing problems. Are fibwrs worn on one spot or on one area only? If so u may have warped pieces. Also run 6 good springs...3 is okay, but 6 is better. Plus if thereo old, springs loose tension over time...get soft..so replace them. My clutches have been in my bike over 2 years now and close to 300 passes....longest ever.....but im lightweight too.. So heavier u are...more gesr u need and quicker u need to get off clutch.

But oil line is not ur problem at all.

I think I threw away some clips for my fairings that I need, so I will have to re order new ones before I can finish the front. Still waiting on my tail to get back from paint.
